In part two of 1 Thess. 1:4-8 Paul, Silvanus, and Timothy express a further reason why they are confident in the salvation of the Thessalonian believers. Not only did the missionaries give the Thessalonians a genuine gospel message empowered by the Holy Spirit, but the Thessalonians themselves received the Word of God demonstrating the Spirit's presence and power in their lives. As a result, this persecuted, yet joyful, church imitated the lives of the missionaries so that they might imitate the life of Christ.
